Coaching4Change Program

Coaching4Change

Coaching 4 Change matches middle school students with high school and college students from the community in a small group setting. These mentoring groups become small "growth teams" focused on social emotional learning and academics. The C4C after school interventions engage youth through mentoring, physical activity, and academic enrichment.

Dating Violence Education Workshop

One Love Foundation & Jacksonville Jaguars (NFL)

The Jacksonville Jaguars (NFL) partnered with their local United Way and One Love Foundation to help bring awareness of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault to high school age students throughout the Jaguars community.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month Events

New York Jets (NFL), Jersey Battered Women's Services, & OneLove Foundation

During Domestic Awareness Month (October 2016), the New York Jets partnered with the Jersey Battered Women’s Services (JBWS) and the One Love Foundation to participate in two very important events. NY Jets hosted an Escalation Workshop on dating violence.  The Atlantic Health Jets Women’s Organization (AHJWO) visited the Jersey Battered Women’s Services emergency safe house on Tuesday, preparing new and donated designer handbags for the silent auction fundraiser called the “Old Bags Luncheon.”

Escalation Workshop

One Love Foundation

OneLove Foundation's Escalation workshop is a powerful, emotionally-engaging 90-minute film based workshop that educates your community about relationship violence and empowers you to work for change. This workshop is research based and is facilitated by students. Access to this resource is FREE. Additionally, athletes and other leaders can be trained as facilitators of this workshop.

Game Change: The Patriot's Anti-Violence Partnership

New England Patriots (NFL) Charitable Foundation, MA Attorney General's Office, and Robert Kraft

Robert Kraft (New England Patriot's owner) and the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation teamed with Attorney General Maura Healey to create Game Change: The Patriots Anti-Violence Program. The program works with anti-violence organizations to provide support to victims of domestic violence, while also providing anti-violence training to students.  The goal of the program is to build the capacity in 98 area schools to implement effective violence prevention education for students, coaches and faculty.  Game Change is a multi-year, multi-phased initiative with a budget of $650,000 ($500K of which was provided by Mr. Kraft and the Patriots, $150K provided by the AGO).

GoGirlGo! National Curriculum

Women's Sports Foundation

This curriculum addresses bullying, body image, stress. Designed for girls ages 5-18, this free program teaches girls about a variety of relevant issues and health risks through the personal experiences of champion athletes like Julie Foudy, Sanya Richards-Ross and Dominique Dawes.

Guidelines for Administrators, Coaches, and Athletes

Women's Sports Foundation

Officials who are responsible for the administration and oversight of coaches and athletic programs should implement a policy prohibiting any ritual verbal, psychological or physical abuse of any player by a coach or fellow teammate that assaults, belittles or demeans. Suggestions for action and definitions of abuse are outlined here.

I AM THAT GIRL: Modern Girls on a Mission

Alexis Jones

Alexis Jones wants to redefine the meaning of “beautiful” and ignite an empowering revolution for females that will help them see themselves in a different light. This inspiring talk reveals the reality behind many of the images women see in the media and explains the pitfalls of relying on outside appearance as a measurement of self-worth. Instead, Alexis encourages girls to look inward for purpose, value, and power. What does it mean to be a powerful woman? How can you find strength in your imperfections? How can you use your unique voice to lift up other women instead of tearing them down? Alexis will answer these questions and teach you how to be that independent, confident girl who dares to lead other women into changing the world.

InSideOut Initative

InSideOut Initiative

To reclaim the educational purpose of sports, school communities must work together to redefine the purpose, and intentionally align key stakeholders around this purpose. It’s critical that school leaders and communities have an in-depth understanding of the purpose of education-based athletic programs, and use a shared common language. The InSideOut System provides a pathway for systemic change—moving educational communities through a four-part process centering on Awareness, Alignment, Action, and Accountability. 

• Awareness – Defines the purpose of education-based athletics
• Alignment – Instills a common language
• Action – Provides education, resources and tools
• Accountability – Establishes clear expectations, policies and procedures

InSideOut Initiative Evaluation

InSideOut Initiative

This ongoing evaluation is investigating the implementation and overall impact of the InSideOut Initiative. Findings are determining best practices for replicating the Initiative across diverse NFL markets by comparing present implementation and outcomes in Colorado and Texas to ongoing efforts in Minnesota. The evaluation of impact is investigating the degree to which the initiative aligns communities, establishes support, and prepares and empowers.

InSideOut Training Process

The InSideOut training provides a blueprint for systemic change through the InSideOut System and the InSideOut Philosophy that defines and elevates the purpose, teaches a common language, provides resources and curriculum and employs strategies that hold school communities accountable to developing the human potential of students. This training process includes:

1. Leadership - Statewide leadership gathers for a day-long training to engage in conversation around the purpose of education-based athletics, establish a shared common language, and to define state specific implementation strategies.  Leadership includes NFL community relations executives, representatives from the state high school athletic associations, athletic administrators, school boards, superintendents, and principals associations, departments of education, legislators, and other influential leaders.

2. Implementation - School Implementation Teams come together to learn the InSideOut System—which creates space in the culture for sports to be about the human growth and development of students.  Teams will also engage in the InSideOut Philosophy, which provides specific tools to enable and equip them to take an InSideOut journey that will challenge and inspire them to define and bring to life their transformational purpose.  School Implementation Teams leave with an InSideOut Action Plan to be implemented in their school community.

3. Sustainability - The InSideOut Initiative provides a clear pathway and prepares School Implementation Teams to reclaim the educational purpose of sports.  InSideOut Schools have access to a national network of school communities engaged in InSideOut movement, along with collected best practices, proven strategies, resources, curriculum and ongoing support.

Through a well-defined pathway, supportive leadership and intentional coaching, school communities successfully reclaim the educational purpose of sports.

Key Actions Handout/Video for Parents and Coaches

Positive Coaching Alliance

These materials for youth and high school sports parents and coaches can help prevent sex abuse. These resources were developed through PCA's partnership with Kidpower International, a leading non-profit in teaching personal safety to all ages and abilities and in protecting young people from bullying, violence, and abuse worldwide since 1989. They include support by Green Bay Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy, a PCA National Advisory Board Member.

Murphy said of these resources: “Abuse prevention is critical to providing children a positive, character-building youth sports experience. That’s why the Packers and I support this effort by PCA and its partners. The more we can spread these abuse-prevention resources, the safer our kids will be.”

This document includes key actions for parents and coaches and is accompanied by this video. You’ll learn about common warning signs of sexual abuse as well as what you can do in your role.

A CALL TO MEN

A CALL TO MEN’s Curriculum,  LIVERESPECT™ Coaching Healthy & Respectful Manhood, offers coaches, educators, mentors and youth advocates the tools to build young men of character.

The curriculum, ideal for middle and high school age boys:

Men of Code Program

Becky's Fund

Men of Code is a prevention-based program that addresses dating violence through policy support for school administration, training for coaches, training for high school athletes, and mentoring sessions throughout the year. The program covers leadership, healthy masculinity, dating/sexual violence, bystander intervention and consent while harnessing the heightened status of male athletes to promote healthy relationships.

MEND

The MEND Toolkit is just that, a toolkit. Think of this resource as a box of tools through which you can pick and chose which tool you want to use. As you complete each module, a new tool will be added to your “toolbox.” Once the entire Toolkit is completed, you should have all the tools you need to educate boys and change the culture that supports violence.
