National Center for Missing and Exploited Children

Protecting children and providing safe spaces for them to learn, play and grow is central to the mission of every youth-serving organization.

Safe to Compete is a program of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) which provides access to resources to help youth-sports organizations and the families of child athletes protect those children from sexual abuse.

Stewards of Children Training Program

Darkness to Light

Prevention training featuring real people and real stories about protecting children from sexual abuse - Stewards of Children® is available in a group setting led by a Darkness to Light Authorized Facilitator or it can be taken individually online. The training is 2 hours and is available in both English and Spanish.

US Center for SafeSport

Athletes will perform better, soar higher, and get more from sport if they feel safe. SafeSport seeks to create a healthy, supportive environment for all participants. Through education, resources, and training, we help members of the sport community recognize, reduce, and respond to misconduct in sport. 

The Center has two offices, each with distinct roles in helping to create a safe, strengthening environment for athletes.

Education & Outreach Office

• Administers national programming to promote respect and prevent abuse
• Raises awareness of issues
• Provides educational materials and resources

Response & Resolution Office

• Investigates and resolves alleged violations of the SafeSport Code for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement
• Uses neutral and independent investigators and arbitrators in its processes
• Gathers and analyzes data that is used to improve awareness and prevention programs
