MEND Training
MEND
Powered by the YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee, MEND works to end violence against women by engaging and educating men. The YWCA has extensive experience treating the symptom, but violence against women is truly a man’s problem that desperately needs a cure. When men understand how our culture supports violence, they become a major part of the solution.
Objectives of this training include:
- Raise awareness about the prevalence of violence against women
- Uncover subtle ways our society reinforces sexist and objectifying biases
- Connect the dots between harmful jokes and actions
- Unpack the difference between healthy and unhealthy masculinity
- Empower attendees with situational examples and strategies to step up and speak out against negative cultural norms
- Challenge attendees to help create a community that respects and values women and girls

Nudge Program Tip Sheet
YMCA of Central Ohio
We as YMCA staff, members, community members and volunteers need to build on the work we’ve done and develop the three habits in child abuse prevention:
- We Know: when we understand the common practices of those who harm you and the best practices to stop them.
- We See: when we can recognize the warning signs or behaviors that signal abuse or risk for abuse.
- We Respond: when we take action in response to behaviors we recognize as being inappropriate or questionable.

Nudge Program White Paper
YMCA
Abstract - Preventing child sexual abuse (CSA) continues to be an emerging field of inquiry. With limited evidence-based practices in the primary prevention of CSA, there remains a Call to Action for new approaches to protect children ("Pillars for Prevention," 2015, p. 2, "Stop it Now!," 2010, p. 4). This paper explores the introduction of libertarian paternalism (LP) theory of nudging human behaviors, with a goal to impact adults in CSA prevention behaviors by the use of visual heuristics images, starting with youth-serving organization (YSO) personnel and beyond in their communities. Although similar approaches in prevention have not yet been applied in protecting children from sexual abuse, a cautious approach to this form of prevention is worth consideration for future study as an innovative way to empower all adults to develop behaviors that prevent CSA.

Positive Coaching Alliance Workshops
Positive Coaching Alliance
Typically, an individual school or youth sports organization hosts a Leadership workshop for its directors, a separate Double-Goal Coach workshop for all its coaches, and a separate Second-Goal Parent workshop. A Triple-Impact Competitor workshop is available for teenage athletes in the school or organization. PCA also offers Partnerships that include workshops for school districts, conferences, park-and-recreation organizations, leagues, and youth sports consortiums in all 50 states and several other nations. Each workshop takes anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours and is led by a PCA Trainer with deep athletic and coaching experience (usually at least three years at the high school level or above). The Trainer explains PCA's three key principles -- Redefining "Winning" as Mastery of Sport, Filling Emotional Tanks and Honoring the Game -- and leads attendees through a series of interactive exercises based on common youth sports scenarios. The result is that the group of leaders, coaches, parents or athletes begins to explore different approaches for success and establishes a common vocabulary for use in providing athletes a positive, character-building youth sports environment.

Practical Guide for Youth Serving Organizations
Enough Abuse
A capacity building grant from the Ms. Foundation for Women and a seed grant from The Boston Bruins Foundation supported the development of our "GateKeepers for Kids: A Practical Guide for Youth Service Organizations" program. Its objective is to educate these institutions about the basics they must have in place to strengthen their child protection policies and practices. This 12-page Practical Guide details the latest training, screening and reporting strategies in the field and a set of Fact Sheets on training, screening, reporting, steps to develop a code of conduct so inappropriate behaviors can be identified early before they escalate to abuse, how to assess and modify physical spaces to reduce opportunities for sexual abuse to occur, etc.

Protecting Against Abuse Training for Coaches and Parents
National Alliance for Youth Sports
The National Alliance for Youth Sports is aware that child abuse in sports is an extremely important topic for coaches and parents of young athletes, regardless of the age or gender of the players. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before their 18th birthdays.
Because this is such an important subject, we have created optional protecting against abuse training courses for NAYS Coaches and NAYS Parents as a supplement to the information they received during their training.

Protecting Children From Violence in Sport Report
UNICEF
In recognition of this, the UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre commissioned a review of the available empirical research and policy initiatives on this subject. The research resulted in a wealth of information, now published in this report. ‘Protecting Children from Violence in Sport: A review with a focus on industrialized countries’ defines the many aspects of the issue, provides examples of both good and poor practice, and makes suggestions for sport organizations to assist them in their violence prevention work. In particular, the study recommends improvements in:
• Data collection and knowledge generation about violence to children in sport
• Development of structures and systems for eliminating and preventing violence to children in sport
• Education, awareness-raising and training on this subject
• Promotion of ethical guidelines and codes of conduct as part of the prevention system.
It is anticipated that by addressing these gaps, significant improvements will be realized for the promotion and protection of the rights of children in sport.
