Strategies

  • Raise Awareness

    Raise Awareness

The “Make Consent Explicit” campaign uses radio and video to model (in a purposely over-the-top fashion) what asking for consent could sound like. Additionally, 7 posters were developed to promote affirmative consent. Campaign posters and other merchandise are available for purchase.

Bars that are trained in the workshop are given signs that remind patrons that they deserve to be safe and to ask bartenders for help.

  • Enhance Partnerships

    Enhance Partnerships

Make Your Move Missoula and MCADSV partnered on this project.

Staff met with the Missoula Tavern Association, the Missoula Underage Substance Abuse Prevention Team, the DUI Task Force, the Business Improvement District Advisory Board, and the Justice System Response Team.

These groups helped inform the bar workshop. The project also collaborates with the Police Department to bring in a crime prevention officer to bar presentations who can talk about law enforcement perspectives. This helped build positive rapport between bar staff and law enforcement.

  • Measure Impact

    Measure Impact

Make Your Move Missoula interviewed 6 stakeholders in a neighboring rural county and facilitated focus groups with 21 teenagers. Five partnering colleges conducted 8 focus groups.

A bar patron survey yielded 320 responses to help inform the workshops. Survey data showed 84% of respondents reported being harassed at a bar in 2016 most often by sexist comments being made or being touched in a sexual manner without permission.

The Bar Workshop also conducted pre and post-test as part of the curriculum.
