March 12, 2025 – In the interest of advancing the protection and safety of survivors reporting app-based workers, RALIANCE released the following statement.
“As a national partnership with expertise rooted in preventing sexual harassment, misconduct, and abuse, RALIANCE is committed to fighting for expanding, not limiting, reporting options for survivors. Our history of working in tech industries gives us a critical perspective on the importance of reforming policies and procedures as they pertain to sexual harm committed by app-based workers.
Survivors should always have the option to make decisions about whether, when, and where to report incidents of abuse. Their options are diminished when existing policies and procedures don’t protect a victim’s identity during the initial stages of a complaint process or while the accused goes through an appeal, don’t offer trauma-informed training to investigators, or have a shortened timeline for the investigation of a complaint. When a system or industry makes it harder to report and less likely for a victim to achieve justice, it contributes to future incidents of sexual harassment, misconduct, and abuse.
At RALIANCE, we strongly believe that every customer deserves to receive service without the risk of sexual violence. Both contact and non-contact sexual harassment have no place in any setting or on any platform. Together, we can change our policies and cultures from within and, as a result, make our apps and communities places that guarantee respect, dignity, and safety to all.”
